Researchers within the Coombes lab are: working to overcome antibiotic resistance by harnessing the power of the innate immune system; developing new models of Crohn’s disease in order to understand what causes CD and what they can do to prevent it; studying the evolution of microbes, particularly bacteria, to understand how they become pathogenic and develop resistance to innate immunity and to antibiotics; and, looking at how diet influences host immunity and susceptibility to acute and chronic disease-causing microbes.
